Pain Menstrual Cramps
The first symptom many girls/women experience of endometriosis is extremely painful period cramps. It is normal to feel some discomfort when menstruation occurs every month, however if the pain is unbearable, this could be the most obvious sign of something more serious. Pain related to endometriosis can cause you to feel nauseous, stop you from going to school/work, force you to take pain medication, and make you feel overall unwell.
Painful Sex
Another symptom that can be a major sign you are suffering from this disorder is pain during sexual intercourse. It is often described as a ‘deep’ pain and can cause incredible discomfort. This occurs when penetration takes place and the pain may vary at different times of the month.
Spotting
Spotting during periods can also be a sign of endometriosis. However, it is important to note that spotting can happen for a number of reasons, although if you are experiencing painful cramps, painful sex as well as spotting this could be a clear indication.
Heavy Menstrual Bleeding
Menstrual flows vary from woman to woman, and it can be normal to have a heavier period. You can determine whether or not your heavy bleeding is abnormal by keeping track of when you have to change your tampon/pad/menstrual cup. For example, if you feel the need to change less than 2 hours or you experience particularly large blood clots, this could be a warning sign. Heavy bleeding can cause extreme pain and general discomfort which can affect many everyday activities.
